Importing data from KeePass v2

Hi,

1Password says it can import from KeePass (and KeePass X). However, when I go through the import steps, it says to create a *.txt file by doing a File > Export as a text file in KeePass. That is not an option in KeePass v2. The options are: CSV, KDB, KDBX, and XML. I tried the CSV, but it does not map the comments correctly (it treats them as separate logins to be imported, probably because there are new lines in some of the comments).

How do I import data from KeePass v2 into 1Password?

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Hi, Jeff. It's possible that things have changes since we wrote the importer. One thing you can try is exporting to CSV from KeePass v2 and then import that using the CSV or Delimited Text importer instead of the KeePass importer. You'll have the option to map the fields to something 1Password can understand during the import.

I hope that works out better for you.

Thanks for the reply. The trick was to select the box saying the fields were contained in quotes; that fixed most of the problems with importing comments. There are still about 5 comment lines that are being imported as separate entries. I'm trying to figure out what is different about those that is causing the problem. They are multi-line comments, but other multi-line comments are importing fine.

Any suggestions appreciated :) Or I may just retype that information in.

    Jeff,

Do you have a sample of an export, with your personal information removed of course, that we could look at to see what we can find out?

    Stu,

I figured out what was causing the problem on the import. One of the notes sections in the CSV file had the following line:

They show ' as the last character, not \", but

Notice the backslash followed by the double quote. There was no other quote in that comment. My guess is that the importer got confused about what was a field after that. All the entries after that imported incorrectly.

When I remove that \" from the comment, the import worked flawlessly. Note there were other \" in other notes sections, but they always showed up in pairs, representing quotation marks around something.

Hope that helps you narrow down the problem.

Thanks for the update, Jeff. i'm glad you were able to identify the problem. We'll keep this in mind for future improvements to the import feature.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
