Shared passwords

I presume this isn't available in 1Password, but if it is - please let me know.

Like many development teams, we've got 100's or 1000's of user/pass combinations that more than 1 person needs access to. I'm trying to find software that allows multiple users to share a single data file.

Even better - 1Password allows you to share some passwords (like ftp details) with your team, and store others (like a bank account) for personal use.

Anyone know anything?

Hi, Tim. This kind of sharing is currently not available in 1Password, but it's something that we've had requested many times. (And something we want for ourselves as well!) We have some ideas for how this could work in a future release, but they're just ideas right now and we haven't had an opportunity to fully explore them, so I can't offer anything else on that front, not even an indication of whether you can expect it to come about. The changing landscape with things like iCloud means we're having to learn a lot of new things and keep an eye out for new opportunities and concerns.

But, you didn't write to ask about what you can't do. :) I have a few logins like this that I share with a few people. The best case is with my wife. If I create an item that I need to share with her, I make sure it has a very strong, unique password. With a strong, unique password, I don't need to worry about changing it unless there's a password change policy enforced or a security breach. So, I just select the entry, export it as 1Password Interchange format and send it to my wife over a local connection such as AirDrop or Bonjour instant message so that it's encrypted. (1Password Interchange is not encrypted, so don't leave these lying around unsecured. :)) Once she has the information imported, we delete the 1PIF file and keep the shared password as an entry in our personal data file.

I realize this isn't exactly what you were after, but sometimes it helps to look at the problem slightly differently and see if you're not trying to solve something that doesn't really need to be solved at the level you're approaching it.

I hope that helps. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

    Thanks Jamie.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - I use 100's of pieces of software as a web designer&developer, and 1Password is the one that's made the biggest impact - a simple solution for what most don't see as a massive problem. Coupled with that, personalised responses, and what seems to be the worlds friendliest company who hand's out licences for my friends at Thanks Giving (to Australians who don't even celebrate TG) - you've got a customer for life.
Cheers for the work around - I like the idea and there's only 2 of us that really need to share those details at this stage.

Good work - keep it going.

I would like to add my thanks to this thread. 1Password is a phenomenally useful tool, one which i recommend to many friends, family members, and customers.

While the biggest barrier to adoption for teams (that I have seen) is the lack of a sharing feature, this export/import method has proven quite helpful as a workaround for small groups. I'm sure the sharing feature, when it does come along, will be just as beautifully implemented as the rest of this stellar app.

Thanks again for all the terrific work you do here. You make me look good every time I recommend 1Password. =]
