Smart Card login
I've just come across the article regarding emergency access to
1Password should the normal user become incapacitated
(euphemistically-speaking): http://vardy.me/the-1password-emergency-kit/
. Someone at AgileBits has even been in touch with the author
regarding it.
It prompts me to request the possibility of using a Smart Card to
access a 1Password database. I'd like to go further and
additionally request:
1) the ability to assign more than one Smart Card to the same
database.
2) the ability to designate a Smart Card as having privileges,
allowing eg. read-only access to the database as a whole; no access
at all to specified items or defined genres, such as all entries
with the Private tag; denying sync of specified items or defined
genres; und so weiter.
3) the ability to log Smart Card interaction
Obviously it can't work with the iOS version, but I'm not here to present the whole solution :)
The link between the article and this request is that it strikes me providing a 4 or 5-digit PIN, along with a Smart Card, is a far better solution than providing a whole list of information. The Smart Card could be held in the safe, as suggested in the article, whilst its PIN is held only in the Will or some such.
Thanks for listening.

On second thoughts, another way to approach this is to have the capability of assigning an emergency password to a 1Password keychain. This password would only allow Read-only access, and the user with the full-access password could choose which logins, etc. are viewable by those using the emergency password.
It might also be an idea that you could specify that use of the emergency password immediately causes a notification to be sent to an email address, bringing attention to the use of the password.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions, Chubbly, we're always happy to hear of ideas for how we can improve 1Password.
I can't promise if we'll ever implement 'emergency access' to 1Password, but we never say never here.
