purchase again??
1password 3.8.18 is my version. If I look to the appstore from apple and i look to the TAB "aankopen" then I can't see that I already have the right version installed. Do you want to change this in the app store? Thanks in forehand , Gerard Jan

Hello Gerard,
Version 3.8.18 is a purchase from us, and 3.9.x is the version in the App Store. If you want to make sure you're up to date, you can go to the 1Password menu and choose 'Check For Updates' and that should keep you current. If you want to upgrade to the Mac App Store version, Apple doesn't have a way to offer a discount, but the Mac App Store version will include a free upgrade to version 4 when it is released.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.
Thanks,

Don't understand why there is a newer version at Apple store. Is it better than 3.8.19.BETA-5 that I currently downloaded. Are you saying to Gerard that when Version 4 comes out, we will have to repurchase. If so, will it be more than the $49.99 that apple is charging currently or will those of us who have been long time subscribers get a reduced fee to upgrade to 4.

Folks whom purchase from the App store are going to be updated to v4 for no charge. Its part of the reason for them having to pay for the App. They are just paying now vs when v4 ships.
Currently I do not know of any set jn stone upgrade paths from the team. This will be determined as it gets closer to a release date etc. No its not ready yet we all wish it was. I have not even seen any info on it yet. But I have seen posts from the admins that say they are working on it.
Generally speaking the team has always been generous when it comes to upgrades, just how much well they are the only ones to know. When I went from v2 to v3 there was a discounted price I don't recall how much. However, thats no a guarantee there will be one. They have yet (in my years being a volunteer help around here) not offered some type of promo, upgrade path, and sale. They are one of the most giving groups of people I know of.
I say that from my own personal view point being a volunteer I am not required to even think about towing a company line or such.
For the record I purchased my copy from the App store, thats how much I believe in there work and efforts. I basically bought 1p V4 unseen. In all honesty there is no way I am going to stop using it. There is nothing better or even comparable in my opinion.
But back to the topic. Keep your eyes on the blog http://blog.agilebits.com/ twitter is good for news as well as Facebook. Personally the blog or the newsletter https://agilebits.com/company/newsletter is where I get all my info from the news release via Google Reader.

Hi Rick,
1Password 3.8 and 3.9 are essentially identical. The main differences are related to compliance with Apple's application sandboxing guidelines for 3.9 that is in the Mac App Store.
They have different version numbers for technical reasons.
There is no compelling to purchase 1Password 3.9 on the Mac App Store if you are a current 3.8 license holder.
However, if you do decide to take the plunge it will not be a waste. As Kelly already mentioned, all MAS purchases of 1Password come with a free upgrade to 1Password 4 as soon as it is available.
Apple does not allow developers to offer any kind of "special" upgrade pricing in the Mac App Store. If you are interested, prominent Mac developer Wil Shipley wrote a provocative blog post on the matter:
http://blog.wilshipley.com/2012/03/mac-app-store-needs-paid-upgrade...
What that means is that the only way we can give a discounted price is to offer a discounted price to everyone. In effect, it just means we end up being even more generous. :)
I can't make any promises, but if history is any indication, we have had great sales at the time of a major version upgrade.
If we can be of further assistance, please let us know. We are always here to help!
