I can't get started

I'm about to give up. Here's what happens: I download, I fill in my passwords properly (I've checked it a dozen times and my guru started over thinking I may have screwed up; I didn't). I downloaded and installed the extension. When I go to a site which I know will require my password and click the key the dropdown menu appears like it's supposed to. HOWEVER, when I click on the button to unlock my site, I get a homepage for IANA, Internet Assigned Numbers Authority. No matter which button I click (and I've tried them all) it goes to the same irrelevant page.

In desperation, I tried to purge my system of all traces of iPassword so I could start over. I downloaded again, and did all the necessary things. To my dismay, I came to the lockbox asking for my password. I thought I'd purged it, but it accepted my password and took me back to the IANA home page.

My theory is that you have me in your system somewhere and I can't get out. If I can't get this fixed tomorrow I'm going to make the best of LastPass and forget 1Password.

    Hi David,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us. I'm sorry that you are having this problem.

You must be creating Login items from within the main application and not changing the default URL for the item. The default URL is:

    http://example.com/

Example.com is maintained by IANA for use in documents and software where you don't want to redirect to an actual website. In the case of 1Password, it could be a security issue if we didn't use Example.com as the default "placeholder" URL.

We strongly recommend creating Login items from within the browser extension.

Just log in to your sites and confirm that you want to save the Login when you are prompted by the 1Password extension to do so.

Complete details can be found in the Getting Started guide:

    http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/3_minute_expert.html

That covers all the basics including saving and filling Logins. If you were creating the Logins manually in the main application, you were actually making it more difficult. If you quickly read the guide, you will see that using 1Password is essentially effortless if you just let it do its thing.

If we can be of further assistance, please let us know. We are always here to help!
