icon in Menubar (by clock)
Is there a way to show a 1Password icon in the menu bar for
quick access?
I store a lot more in it than just my web logins and it would be
quite handy to have a menu like Safari/Chrome but available
systemwide in the menubar to look things up, etc.
Thanks!

Hey Norty,
Thanks for letting us know this is something you'd find helpful.
I can't make any promises for you but I know our development team is considering what to do with the menubar icon for a future version of 1Password they will certainly keep your feedback in mind with their decision.
I like the menubar icon too and I hope we'll be adding it into all versions of 1Password and expanding on it but I don't know what they're decision will be. Your feedback certainly helps!
I wish I had a more immediate solution for you and I appreciate your patience!

I just purchased 1Password and have started using it. The 1Password key icon at the top right on the Menubar by clock (or more accurately it was next to the triangle at the far left of attached screenshot) was there until I right clicked it and selected quit. Now it's gone, I've restarted my Mac OS X Lion and still not there. Any idea how I would go about getting that back. Many thanks!

Hello Peter,
Can you describe the icon? Current versions of 1Password do not live in the menu bar, so I am not sure what exactly it was that you were seeing. We only offer a button for your browsers, not anything that lives in the menu bar.
Thanks,

Thank you for the reply. I wish I could describe it exactly, I believe it was a square'ish box with a downward pointing key just as in the browsers (in my case Chrome and Safari)....
OK, so what I just did was uninstall the program, removed the extensions from Safari and Chrome and reinstalled 1Password, still no icon in the top menu bar. Then when I thought to re-install the browser extensions I was greeted with the Install Browser extensions screen with a "lets get started" bar at the bottom. Then I clicked on that and I see a pic (see attached pic "Helper") that shows the menubar icon I'm missing. I proceeded to install the browser extension(s) and as soon as I did that the key icon reappeared on my menu bar at the top of my display.
Now if I were to right click (or command click) that key icon and choose quit, it will disappear and I believe I would have to remove the browser extensions and re-install them to get that icon back again.
See my menu par pic "icon"
I guess I now just won't quit it from that location unless I do want to lose that icon. (see image "icon quit"
I now gather that having the icon there saves me from having to have the 1Password program launch Icon in my main program tray at the bottom of my screen and I also presume this way it will always be running unless I quit the program from my applications folder in the Finder or in my lower tray if I were to choose to have the Launch Icon reside there.
So was that a short story long? ha ha!
I hope that was helpful for us both and for whoever else comes across this post. If you have any tips to add pertaining to this for further enlightenment please let me know.
Thanks again for your prompt reply earlier! Best regards,

Hi Peter,
Thanks for taking the time to write to us.
This icon should show up if the 1PasswordHelper process is running. If you want it to run all the time, you can open 1Password > Preferences > Extensions and check the box to keep the helper running.
I hope that helps. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

How do I get the icon to show up? I'm using 1Password Version 3.8.19 (build 31419) (which it says is up to date) but I can't find "1Password > Preferences > Extensions"
I only have "General, Security, Browsers, Logins, Backup, Updates, Advanced" and I don't see any settings referring to helper or 1PasswordHelper.
When I look at activity monitor I see a 1PasswordAgent
After a quick look on the Mac App Store it looks like version 3.9.5 is available, do us website purchasers get left behind on the updates?
Thanks,
~Jona

Hi Jona,
The icon is only available from the Mac App Store version.
There are currently two versions of 1Password being worked on:
1) 3.8 which is from the website
2) 3.9 which is from the Mac App Store.
We currently have 3.8.20 in an internal beta form right now. However, the key icon in the menu bar is only available on the Mac App Store version because it requires Lion. Since the 3.8 version from our website can run on Snow Leopard as well, we are unable to include a Lion only feature in that version.
Do realize we're not leaving you behind on updates. You're still getting updates and aside from that menu bar icon, 3.8 is feature for feature the same as the Mac App Store version.
I hope this helps!
Cheers!
