Master Password Changed - Can't Login
I recently changed my 1Password master password. I have been able to login to 1Password directly with the new password. Today, I tried to auto-fill a login and password using safari and the 1Password extensions and the new password did not work. The previous password did work. I then tried to login directly to the 1Password application with the new password and could not. I then tried the old password and that did not work. I am now completely locked out of 1Password. In desperation, I have deleted the browser 1Password extensions, and rebooted and nothing has worked. I also checked for upgrades and found an upgrade of 1Password and installed that. Still can't login to 1Password.

Hey there, Greg!
Thank you for contacting us. I am sorry you are having this problem.
For your privacy and security, your master password is known only by you. We cannot reset it for you and you cannot change it without entering the old one. There is also no "back door" to access your data without the master password. If there were, that would be a security hole that criminals could exploit to steal your information.
If you think you know what the password is, but it is not being accepted, please see the tips in this guide
Please try each tip, for we have found them to be the most common causes of this problem. If you cannot remember the password, you will need to restore from a backup (File > Restore Data File from Backup) or start over. Both of these steps are documented in the guide.
If you have recently updated from an older version of 1Password, keep in mind that we recently changed how it handles fully upper- or lower-case passwords. Previously, 1Password would try both (all uppercase if you entered all lowercase letters, and vice versa), but now if your password is all upper- or lower-case it will need to be entered as such.
I hope this helps. Please tell me how it turns out. :)

Hey Brent!
This is not the case of "the user forgot what his newly entered master password is". I changed the password on 10/11 and was able to unlock the 1Password application with the new password. A new 1Password version update was then applied (apparently containing the master password case sensitivity updates). I was still able to unlock the 1Password application with the new password. However, on 10/14 I attempted to use 1Password to login to a website via safari (something I had not done since the master password was changed and the 1Password update was applied) and the browser 1Password add-on did not recognize the new password. I then entered the old password and 1Password opened the 1Password browser add-on login selection window. I did not find the web site I was looking to login to listed in the 1Password selector window. I then selected 'launch 1Password' from the selector window to bring up the 1Password application. I then tried to unlock 1Password using the new master password and it was not accepted. I then tried the old master password and it also failed.
The end result was that I was locked out of 1Password even though I knew what both the old and new master passwords are. I dumped the 1Password trouble shooting report and found the following log info that lead me to believe that the 1Password data file was corrupted:
[31172] Fri Oct 14 18:47:19 2011| Not enough encryption keys found in [file://localhost/Users/greg/storeit/1Password.agilekeychain/data/default/1password.keys]: 0. The master password entered incorrectly.
I have since resolved the issue by:
- Deleted all add-ons in all of my browsers - Restored the 1Password file from backup - Ensured that 1Password is fully up to date - Changed the old master password to the a new master password - Reinstalled all my browsers with the 1Password add-on
Now the new master password is the only password (both to unlock 1Password and to access 1Password via browser add-ons)

Sorry for the misunderstanding, Greg! Thanks for the update. I am glad you got it working!
I actually enter my Master Password incorrectly on a regular basis (the first attempt almost every time I try to unlock -- I try typing it too fast!) I apologize for the confusion as well. Previously it was necessary to reinstall the extensions after changing the Master Password to get it updated there, but this should be fixed in the version we released yesterday. The error message you saw is the result of an incorrectly entered Master Password:
Trust me, my logs are full of these!
If you have any other questions, just ask. We are always here to help! :)
