Look Up in 1Password bookmarklet doesn’t pass correct URL
I’m a longtime user of 1Password for iOS, and I particularly love the “Look Up in 1Password” bookmarlet, which lets you jump from a page in Mobile Safari directly to the relevant login in 1Password for iOS so that you can copy the password you need, switch back to Mobile Safari, and paste it in.
Unfortunately, for several months now, this bookmarklet has not worked properly for me. When I invoke the bookmarklet, 1Password opens with “http” in the search field, rather than the domain name of the website I was viewing. This makes 1Password for iOS a lot less convenient to use.
Is this a known issue, and is there a fix in the offing?

Hi Kevin,
This appears to be an issue with iOS 5, however we've just discontinued support for the 'Lookup in 1Password' bookmarklet as this was designed for use before iOS had multi-tasking.
As such, it won't be receiving any further updates and we've now removed this from our site for new users.

That’s really unfortunate, Stu. This makes 1Password less useful to me.
Using multitasking to switch to 1Password and then manually look up the login that is needed is a tedious process, especially when I have to repeat it many times a day. The “Lookup in 1Password” bookmarklet speeds this up significantly (or at least it did when it was working).
I hope you will reconsider removing this significant feature from the app. As a dedicated 1Password user, I feel like important functionality is being taken away from me for no good reason other than to save you work maintaining it. :(
I’m off to give your competitors’ products another look now.

Kevin,
We've made our decision about the bookmarklet, because we believe we have something better coming up for the future, our plan is to greatly improve 1Password's own browser to make it much more usable as a Safari replacement, or rather partial replacement.
I'm sorry to hear this means you'll be looking elsewhere, sometimes we have to cut features that we feel don't make the grade anymore.

I’ll be curious to see what’s in store for 1Password’s integrated browser; however, from what I know of the sync APIs, the bookmarks (and bookmarklets!) that Mobile Safari has synced from the desktop will never be accessible to an app like 1Password. As a result, I have a hard time imagining using 1Password as a replacement browser on my iOS device. I just can’t imagine browsing without access to, say, my Instapaper bookmarklet.
This is to say nothing of all the notification emails I get with links that will always open in Mobile Safari, and immediately prompt me to log into the site in question.
The best experience I can imagine with 1Password as a primary browser is if you offered a bookmarklet for Mobile Safari that let you “open this page in 1Password”, so that I could “transfer” a page to 1Password when faced with a login prompt. Still, doing so would drop any session cookies that Mobile Safari had received, so such a feature would be incompatible with many sites. It would also leave behind a constant stream of login prompts open in Mobile Safari that the user would need to clean up manually.
It’s sad to think that my iOS browsing experience will never again be as streamlined as it once was, and for no other reason than your developers decided it would be easier to implement something worse. :(

Kevin,
We're still working out all of the details, but we really hope you'll give it a try when it's ready and maybe reserve judgment on if it's better or worse until that point.

In collaboration with fellow 1Password user Brendan Averett, I’ve produced a tweaked bookmarklet that works in iOS 5:
