Hi,
I can't install any update of 1password. Allways an error message concerning Internet/Windows Explorer appears (see attachment). Internet Explorer is never running on my system (doesn't function on my PC, anayway...), for sure Windows Explorer is running always ;-)
What can I do?
Than you!

Best regards

    Hi Johannes,

Thanks for taking the time to write to us.

Please try pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del on your keyboard which should bring up a menu. One of the options will be for Task Manager. Select that option, and then select the Processes tab at the top of the Task Manager. Locate any instances of Explorer.exe or iexplore.exe, select them, and select End Task. This may cause your start menu/taskbar to disappear, as well as your desktop, so have the 1Password installer open and ready to go before attempting. You can restart your computer from the 1Password installer once installation has completed. If things don't work out, you can also restart by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del again and selecting the Log Off option.

I hope that helps. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

    Hi Ben,

I've tried several times to end prozesses with Ctrl+Alt+Del - there is only the Explorer.exe (Internet Explorer isn't open!). I shut down the explorer but the Error remains...
What can I do? Perhaps my whole system is corrupt?

    Johannes,

I'm sorry for the continued trouble, do you have any explorer (so viewing folders etc) windows open when you try to install 1Password?

Given that you said that IE doesn't work on your system it may certainly be worth investigating if there's a deeper problem.

I came here looking for a solution to this as well. I have two fairly similar workstations where I have 1password syncing things. One gets this error and even after killing everything possible in task manager after a clean reboot, I can't automatically upgrade.

Also manual updating has this problem too.

Aha. Found it. There were some IE processes owned by a user not me, which I'm not sure what that's about after a clean reboot. Oh Windows, you are such a mess.

    Hi there,

Yes, there are also some apps that embeds IE and users won't know it. It is a bit messy but usually, we find a way to fix it.

I'm glad you fixed it and thanks for sharing it with us.

If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

    Thanks!
