Safari can’t install this extension
I have updated to Safari 5.1.1 for Snow Leopard and when I attempt to install, having double-clicked the downloaded extension, I get a message from Safari that "Safari can’t install this extension": An error occurred while installing the extension “1Password”. You can only click OK to dismiss the dialog.
The Extensions Manager in Safari is on and shows no installed extensions. Safari has been restarted and I have redownloaded the extension with the same results. I did not find the 1P extension on Apple's Safari Extension page or I might have tried an installation from there.
I tried relaunching the 1P helper - no change.
Thanks, Joel.
My system: MacBook Pro 17 2011, 8GB, 256GB SSD, 10.6.8 v1.1
1P: Version 3.8.9 (build 31178)

Joel,
Sorry for the trouble here, this usually means there's an issue with the Extensions.plist file in Safari, you will probably find you're not able to install other extensions either.
Please quite Safari and then go to a Finder and select Go > Go to Folder and enter the following path:
*~/Library/Safari/Extensions/ *
If you the drag the Extensions.plist file to your Desktop, just in case something goes wrong, and then restart Safari you should be able to install the 1Password extension using this link:

Stu,
Thanks for your message. It turned out to be a little more complex:
Both the Extensions and Database folders in the Safari folder of my library had incorrect permissions set, so Safari could not write to them, so the Safari error message could have been more specific.
I fixed the permissions to allow me to read and write but looking inside the now accessible database folder there was nothing, which is why I was seeing the attached screenshot following an attempt to register my 1P password.
I reinstalled Safari 5.1.1 and the database file was properly created this time. I then installed the 1P extension and it proceeded normally and I now have access - Many thanks. The extension immediately updated itself, so it looks like everything is working.
If you look at the screenshot, I have two comments:
1/. The message is truncated at the bottom.
2/. Cmd-Opt-Q seems to do nothing in Safari.
Joel.

Thanks for the update, Joel! Incorrect permissions would certainly cause trouble if the extension could not write its data. :-)
I'm glad you were able to get it sorted out.
We'll work on the formatting of that error and see if we can remove the Lion-specific keyboard shortcut to "Quit and Discard Windows" which is confusing if you are not using Lion. :-D
We appreciate you mentioning this. If we can be further assistance, please let us know. We are always here to help!

I had the same issue and the solution was that the extensions directory in my user library didn't have permissions for me at all. so i just added me with read/write and all was good.
