I have just purchased the 1 password for iPhone.
when I went to put in my master password it did not take it.
I am pretty sure I have it correctly, but maybe there is a variance from what I thought I set up.
what can I do, if I need to reset my master password ? or recover my master password?
thanks

    Hey there, Morris!

Thank you for contacting us. I am sorry you are having this problem.

Your master password is used to encrypt all your confidential information for each item that has the master password enabled; without this password the data in these items cannot be recovered. Your 1Password master password is known only by you, and we cannot reset it for you; if we could, that would be a security hole that criminals could use to steal your data.

I am afraid that if you cannot remember the password, you will need to reset your master password. Make sure you're using the latest version of 1Password on your iOS device and then navigate to (More) > Settings > Security and tap Reset Master Password. Note that any entries that were previously protected by the master password will be permanently lost.

If you reset the database there are a few ways to retrieve your data after the reset:

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask. And, as always, thanks for using 1Password! :)

As I had a similar problem may I repeat that the above "resets" only return the problem back to the beginning in that the master password is set back as well. At least it seems that way using the above mentioned first and second method.

These methods do not help when the password at the other end, let's say iPhone 1Password Pro does not compute either.

A way for users to recover their data, perhaps with a further "super password", as some mobile providers use, would be a great advantage. It is not always the user, who simply "forgets" his password, a crash or iOS update may cause the same problem.

Hey Brent: that was very helpful!
however if I do not have a 1 password on my mac, can I not retrieve data?
also, if I lose my phone, drop it in the tub (which has happened), etc- is there a way of
retrieving all of my secure data from the cloud?
I really need to have a back up way of retreiving lost data of all of my passwords etc, and if it means
purchasiong 1 password for mac I will do it. or doing some other form of back up system.
thanks again for your speed and direct answers.

    Hey, Peter!

Sorry for the confusion! While a password recovery feature you describe would be convenient should you forget your Master Password, it would also really lower the security of 1Password. We just don't have access to this information in the first place, and the security of your 1Password data relies heavily on you using a strong, unique Master Password that no one else knows -- and of course your remembering it.

We don't want to be in a position to cause our customers' sensitive data to fall into the wrong hands, and while you may be comfortable with us having the information necessary to recover your password or data, most of our customers use 1Password because it allows them to be fully in control of their data. The price of this is that the onus is on you to guard your Master Password. I encourage you to write it down and put it in a safe deposit box or other secured location so you (or your loved ones, should something happen to you) are able to recover it if needed.

    Hello again, Morris!

You are totally welcome. Thanks for following up. That is a great question!

You absolutely don't have to use the desktop version to back up your data. 1Password on iOS has built-in backup and restore functionality. Just launch 1Password on your iPad or iPhone and go to (More) > Settings > Data(base) > Backup & Restore and follow the instructions to navigate to the address provided using the web browser on your computer to save the .1ptbackup file.
