How do I sync my data between my iPhone and my iPad?
Here's how to sync your iPhone and iPad data together:
First and foremost, you do not need to make an additional purchase in order to sync your iPhone and iPad; but you do need to create the syncing file using either the Mac or Windows version of 1Password. We offer a free 30-day trial on our website so you can create the file, and if you do not want to keep it installed on your computer, you can uninstall it.. Here are the steps you need in order to get things syncing:
-
First, make sure you don't lose anything! Here are the instructions to back up your data file:
-
On iPhone: Launch 1Password, unlock it, and go to More > Settings > Database > Backup & Restore, and follow the instructions. If you need it, we have an iPhone walkthrough for you.
-
On iPad: Launch 1Password, unlock it, and go to Settings > Data > Backup & Restore, and follow the instructions. If you need it, we have an iPad walkthrough for you.
-
Go to http://dropbox.com/install and download and install their software on your computer; create your new log in or log in using the Dropbox account you created. (If you have a personal account and a work account, the personal one is the one to use.)
-
Download the free 30-day trial of 1Password from here: https://agilebits.com/downloads and install that as well.
-
Launch 1Password on your computer, and create the new (empty) data file. Then go to Preferences > General, and under Data File click on "Move to Dropbox..."
-
Wait for Dropbox to finish syncing your data. (This shouldn't take long since the file is empty.) You can verify this has finished by clicking on the Dropbox icon. It's all set when it says "All files up to date" in the menu.
-
Double check that Dropbox has finished syncing. (Yes, like the last step says. It's listed twice because this is the top issue reported when Dropbox syncing isn't working.)
-
Choose one of your iOS devices, preferably the one you have the most up-to-date information on, and set it up to point to Dropbox as well. This will add all the 1Password data to your currently empty data file. Guided walkthroughs, are available for iPhone and iPad. Otherwise, here are the setup instructions:
-
Go to Settings > Sync > Dropbox, and turn Dropbox Sync ON.
-
Enter your Dropbox login information (and the Master Password you set on your computer) and your 1Password data will be automatically synchronized in the background!
...That's it!
For simplicity's sake, you might want to use the same master password on all your devices, but they can be different if you prefer. Just remember which is which!
